Day 40: A quick drive around Historic Savannah first to take a few last pictures and then a stop Leapolds Ice Cream to enjoy a delicious treat!! Now heading to my friend Lise’s farm in Akien, South Carolina. I discovered Victoria has never spent any time with horses. Sad to not have exposed her to this beautiful animal but no time like the present! Lise also has no problem welcoming our kittens, Clio and Hephaestous since she lives on a farm. They of course stayed in the bathroom as not to disrupt the order of the animals for our one night stay. And they cant destroy much in a bathroom, especially if we remove all soft objects including the shower curtain. They are terrors…but we LOVE them already:)
We enjoyed an evening relaxing with Lise at her home with her 3 horses, 2 dogs, Griffin and Gus and 1 cat, Louie and a delicious dinner prepared by Lise AND a VERY Nice bottle of wine!! Thank you Mic and Bobby!!

Day 41: Up early because on the farm this is the way it goes:) Lise and I took a nice morning walk with Griffin. but time to hit the road again for our last stop in Colonial Williamsburg, before heading HOME!!! An 8 plus hour drive today but a 2 night stay. We have cut the trip short by 2 days to accommodate our new passengers. We arrived in Williamsburg and began operation “smuggle kitties.” Although a pet friendly hotel…we found out “pet friendly” really means dogs. I now know why…you cannot control kitties!!! Oh my!! We let them wander in the hotel room covering the couch with towels but this only worked for a short time…back into the bathroom they go! Time for sleep!

Day 42: Up early and tried to shower with kitties romping around in the bathroom. I’m off to Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown to finish out the trip and photograph for another book. I arrived ahead of schedule with Victoria and the kitties back in the hotel room sleeping. I was the first to enter Historic Jamestown, not to be confused with the Jamestown Reproduction Settlement. I really had fun discovering Jamestown as the Disney movie, Pocahontas is a family favorite! My son Bowen, idealized John Smith and would act out the movie. One of my favorite memories was video taping Bowen and his Grandpa acting out the movie using the climber as the boat. Ahhhh…Memories!!
A productive day but again VERY HOT and HUMID. Take me back to New England!!!
I didnt know what exhaustion really felt like until today…barely able to walk or speak I made it back to the hotel room to collapse and prepare for the 10 hour trip home tomorrow. Falling into bed at 5:30 after a dinner of leftovers and the chocolate Budda I still had from Santa Barbara, YUM!!!!

Day 43: Drive ended up being 13 hours!!!! Friday afternoon through New York was not one of our better decisions. SO MANY people!!! We contemplated driving back to Montana, not really… but the peace of the National Parks is a delightful thought, except for the bathroom. The kitties did so well on the 13 hour trip. Our rest stops now include feeding the animals and cleaning a cat box after it has been used. Thankfully they are well behaved and wonderful travelers. They love their back pack and the plastic spoon we used for a a toy.
We are almost there….(I think Massachusetts needs to do some trimming!)
