Why You Should Plan a Trip With Your Mother Every Year

“Your mom might not be the first person you think of when planning a trip. Nevertheless, you should probably start considering her more! Whether it’s a long trip overseas or a quick weekend getaway, this special activity filled with unknown adventure will open doors to multiple experiences for you. Seize this amazing opportunity to get to know each other better. You both might think you know each other pretty well. Mom did birth you after all. But the truth is there’s probably a lot of history and baggage clouding your views of one another. Both mom and daughter alike are real human beings, not just mother and daughter. Taking an annual trip together can help you dig deeper, discover untold stories, go beyond the history you’ve endured together, and strengthen your relationship…Traveling forces you to make decisions and discoveries. It forces one or both of you to call a lot of shots you wouldn’t normally have to call. You get to compromise and prioritize. You get to make blind choices and build even more trust. You’ll likely end up doing something that one or the both of you have never done!
Getting out of your comfort zone is bound to be a thrilling experience. It will also prove to be rewarding for your relationship with your mom – provided you work together and are willing to have some fun!
You’ll Realize How Much She Loves You
Your mom might even be willing to take 10,000 more photos of you then any of your friends would have the patience for. She’ll put up with your mood swings when you get hungry or lost. She’ll want to do things that you want to do and see the sights that you have in mind because she wants you to be happy. You’ll start to realize all of the ways she prefers you, all the ways she chooses what you want over what she wants, and how she becomes interested in what you’re interested in, just to make your life better.”I chose to start with this article (thank you, Joyce) because it sums up exactly what this trip is about. Day 5:
The time in St. Louis was wonderful with friends to share and explore the city. Although Mic and Bobby had seen the Oldest Cathedral, The St. Louis Art Museum and the Budweiser factory before, they shared their home city with enthusiasm and excitement. We had the top down as Bobby chauffeured us to the city stopping first at the “new” Cathedral to be AWED by the glass mosaics adorning the inside walls of the cathedral.

Then off to the St Louis Art Museum where Mic is a docent. We received a mini tour from Mic beginning with a statue relating to our home town of Acton, Massachusetts. Would love comments below if you understand the connection.

Onto the Brewery…

This was a full day already but Victoria and I returned to the arch later in the evening. I think Mic and Bobby have seen this a few too many times:) Going up in the arch was interesting, slow and a little scary BUT I am glad I did it. While at the top of the arch, feeling it sway was a bit much and then a storm rolled in…I quickly got in line to head back down. Victoria could tell by the LOOK on my face I was uneasy. Trying to smile through my fear we waited in line and took pictures because after all, we are on the top of the arch! The rain did come but it didn’t stop these hardy New Englanders! One of the many memories etched in my mind is us running to our car, getting soaking wet but the reward was warm mac and cheese from St. Louis Bread Company otherwise known as Panera and the best part was we had a gift card. Day 6:
We drove for 10 hours yesterday but it really went by faster than I anticipated. We talked, we laughed no crying today! We chatted to Cory and Bowen (my two sons, Victoria’s brothers) in a group call for almost two hours!! Cory is at home and Bowen lives in LA, two different sides of the country but they were experiencing the journey with us. Isn’t technology amazing!
And we stopped in Dyersville, Iowa home of the movie set for “Field of Dreams”
Fun but…where are the corn stocks?

Our stop for the night was “The Hard Rock Cafe and Casino” in Sioux City, Iowa. How random you are probably thinking…but we have found deciding on the hours we can handle driving based on the stopping location and the next destination seems to be working. Again using hotels.com I found this hotel, cheap. We had to make it there and into the room by 7:00 for the Bruins of course and we did!
While Victoria watched the Bruins game I snuck out between periods to check out the casino and even attended the free country concert in the casino, bought my shot glass to add to my collection and toured the casino LOOKing at the memorabilia. Hunter relaxed:)

Sadly the Bruins lost…Bobby stop snickering it is not over yet! Victoria had a very tough time being in St. Louis with the Stanley Cup finals looming.
Day 7:
On our way to Mt. Rushmore the billboards got us again and we had to stop at “The World’s Only Corn Palace” because who needs two? It was actually kind of cool. There were mosaics made out of corn. The ones adorning the outside of the building are changed out every year at a cost of $130,000! The caramel chocolate covered popcorn was yummy too! The time change helped too because we gained an hour and with Victoria’s strict schedule we needed the extra hour.

WOW!!
If you haven’t been Mt Rushmore you should plan a trip. It is really an AWESOME sight to see. It a beautiful park with trails and walkways to meander and enjoy different perspectives. Imagine how they built this in 1923?
The anticipation is always the best part but it is truly an inspiring sight!

A longer than usual blog but hopefully it gives you an idea of how much ground we are covering, the things we are seeing and how big and wonderful this country truly is!
